April

Find here a prayer for every day in April

1st April

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever.
Amen

2nd April

Gracious God, as we awake this day,
give us humility to seek your will,
wisdom to discern it,
readiness to obey it and strength to persist in it.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

3rd April

The blessing of the night, O Lord, you have given us
for rest and the gift of the day to praise your glory.
Keep us each day from all sin, protect us in the hour of temptation
and guide us with the light of your presence;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
John Calvin (1509-1564)

4th April

O Lord, when you give to your servants to endeavour any great matter, grant us to know that it is not the beginning, but the continuing of the same to the end, until it be thoroughly finished, that yields the true glory; through him who, for the finishing of the work before him, laid down his life, even Jesus Christ our Redeemer.
Amen.
Francis Drake 1543-1596

5th April

Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honour depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.

Psalm 62:5-8

6th April

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:4-7

7th April

‘There will be a time to celebrate, but it is not now,
There will be a time for feasting, but not today.
There will be a time to pour out expensive perfume, but for the moment we leave it stored.
We long for resurrection, but for now mostly see death.
We long for the fresh air of freedom, but today salvation keeps most at home, whilst nurses and doctors keep Lazarus company, and water waits to be turned into wine.
It will all come, but not today.
Today we hope.
In Christ, with Christ, through Christ.
Amen
Clive Marsh prompted by John 12:1-11

8th April

O God, renew us in Thy love today,
For our tomorrow we have not a care,
Who blessed our yesterday
Will meet us there.
But our today is all a thirst for Thee,
Come in the stillness, O Thou heavenly dew,
Come Thou to us – to me
Revive, renew.
From ‘Towards Jerusalem’ Amy Carmichael (1936)

9th April

Father we thank you for Jesus
and for the stories about you and your kingdom of love and truth.
We praise you for everything he said and did that showed us your love.
We praise you for his life of caring, compassion and  healing.
We praise you for everything he said and did that showed us your love.
We thank you for his welcome for everyone no matter what.
We thank you for his stories he told of a lost son and a lost coing
and of the rejoicing when they were found.
We come to you in the name of Jesus,
our friend and our saviour and our Lord.
Amen

10th April

We praise you that Jesus came to find us even before we knew we were lost.
We thank you that through his life, death and resurrection,
he opened the door to God’s kingdom of love.
We thank you for those who told us the story of Jesus
and whose lives and example have mad us want to know him more.
We thank you that it is not just a story that we can hear and enjoy.
We praise you that Jesus Christ is alive
and makes life exciting and challenging for us all.
We come to you in the name of Jesus,
our friend and our saviour and our Lord.
Amen

11th April

We praise you for giving us a place in your kingdom,
and for giving us the task of inviting others to enter too.
Lord, we are sorry when what we say or do,
makes it harder for someone else to know your loves
and to trust you with their lives.
We are sorry for every time we have kept quiet when we should have spoken
We come to you in the name of Jesus,
our friend and our saviour and our Lord.
Amen

12th April

Do not be discouraged, for you are not alone.
Do not lose heart, for Christ is in you.
Do not lose your way, for Christ is with you.
Do not lose strength, for you are filled with his Spirit.
Do not stay here, for Christ is sending you.
Go now, and live in him
Amen

13th April

Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation,
to you be praise and glory for ever.
As once you ransomed your people from Egypt
and led them to freedom in the promised land,
so now you have delivered us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your risen Son.
May we, the first fruits of your new creation,
rejoice in this new day you have made,
and praise you for your mighty acts.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen

14th April

Father, take hold of our lives,
fill us with your Spirit
and send us out into your world
as examples of your grace
and witnesses to your love.
Amen

15th April

Loving Lord, give us the courage to reach out in new ways
with the good news of your love.
As we travel in new directions,
help us to be always alert to the prompting of your Spirit,
always aware of your presence and open to the needs
of those we encounter on the way.
As we seek to be witnesses to your love,
help us to be a blessing to all those that we meet on our journeying.
Amen.

16th April

I choose to worship, I choose to bow
Though there’s pain in the offering, I lay it down
Here in the conflict when doubt surrounds
Though my soul is unravelling, I choose You now.
I will praise You through the fire, through the storm and through the flood.
In the valley You are worthy, you are good when life is not
You will always and for ever be my song.
Amen

17th April

Lord of all, we thank you that we can come to you in prayer, that for all your greatness and wonder, we can speak to you as to a friend.
We thank you that we can open our hearts to you and share our deepest thoughts, knowing that you are there.
Help us to be truthful to ourselves and to you so that we may experience the renewing love that only you can offer, a love that enables us to be the people you would have us be.
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
Amen

18th April

Living and loving God.
Remind us once more that in all the changes and challenges in the world, you are our rock, our deliverer and our hope.
Remind us that your love continues through all things, your power is supreme over all things, and your presence is with us in all things.
Living and loving God, be among us this day.
Help us to hear your voice, to offer our service, and to live in the assurance of the victory you have won in Christ.
AMEN

19th April

Risen Christ,
for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred:
open the doors of our hearts,
that we may seek the good of others
and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace,
to the praise of God the Father.
Amen

20th April

Heavenly Father, help us to remember that your plan and purposes are working out in our lives for our eternal benefit and for your greater glory, even during these times when we are facing difficulties and dangers.
Help us to cling to you every moment of the day and in all we do, may we become a testimony of a life who trusts in God alone.
AMEN.

21st April

Lord God, we come to you in praise and worship that you may help us to:
Walk in your light,
Act in your strength,
Think in your wisdom,
Speak in your truth,
Live in your love.
So that when all the days are done, we may come to dwell in your glory.
AMEN

22nd April

Lord our God, may each of us in our calling be faithful in our discipleship and loving in our encounters with your children. Help us to talk of you passionately and meaningfully and awaken us to every opportunity to share your good news. We ask for your blessing as we work to bring about your kingdom. Amen.

23rd April

Loving God.
We thank you that you are a God who teaches us more about you each day and who is always ready to reveal more of your love for us.
We thank you for the different ways that we encounter you, through scripture, through the world around us, through the people we meet, through the birds singing.
May we always seek you and may we always be open to the prompting of your Holy Spirit.
AMEN

24th April

Living and loving God.
We thank you for all our local community has to offer and for all the ways our community is pulling together at this time.
We thank you that we are part of that community and we thank you for all the people who live near.
Help us Lord to work out our faith in our community, offering service and making the Gospel real in our relationships and activities.
Help us to truly be in Christ.
To the glory of your precious name.
AMEN

25th April

Gracious God, in a world where corruption, deceit, suspicion and ‘fake news’ regularly fill the headlines, we are full of gratitude for the gospel of Christ, which brings light, hope, truth and ‘good news’ into our lives.
May the confidence that we have new life in Christ make a difference to how we respond to the people and circumstances we encounter, so that our words and actions become ‘good news’ for others. In the name of Christ, Amen.

26th April

God who reaches out to us in love, cascading grace to all creation, may we be disciples who respond to your overwhelming, unconditional, unbounded presence.
May we each respond to your invitation to share in your mission with all our heart, will, mind and strength.
May we respond to your Spirit who calls us to reimagine our communities in the light of your grace.
And may the gospel enliven our spirits to see possibilities, to grasp opportunities and to travel in the way of Jesus.

27th April

Eternal beauty, who came in Christ and is present by your Spirit, we praise you for the love that birthed creation and thank you that we can never exhaust the goodness of your gifts. Enable us to hear your call and to respond to your prompting, that our hands may be the hands of your Son, Jesus Christ, and our lives become a perfect offering through your blessed Spirit.
May we flourish with your creation as we work with your grace for the good of all you have made. Amen.

28th April

Lord, we thank you for the richness of your creation;
For the enormity of our universe,
So utterly vast that it takes our breath away –
Our minds simply cannot take it in.
We thank you for the smallest creature,
Perfect in detail, incredibly made.
We acknowledge that you have not only made the world,
But you have created us.
We thank you for giving us the ability
To think, to plan and to choose
Amen

29th April

Lord, we pray for those who weep, mourning those they’ve loved and lost; happiness that ran so deep followed now by such cost.
Each day brings now added pain, memories of times they knew, never to be shared again – life a case of getting through.
When their hearts are fit to brake – hurt too bitter to express – grant them solace, dull the ache, comfort them in their distress.
In their anger, loss and shock, help them find in you a friend; in their turmoil be their rock, one on whom they can depend.
Thought they feel they cannot cope, gracious God, reach out and save; bring to each new life, new hope in your love, beyond the grave.

30th April

Almighty God, ruler of the ends of the earth, we pray for those to whom you have entrusted power and responsibility.
Grant them wisdom, insight, patience, dedication, integrity, open-mindedness, and humility, that each be equipped to honour the trust placed in them.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
