Find here a prayer for every day in June
Special prayers today for all schools and everyone who works in schools, for the children and parents. For difficult decisions. For strange and new routines. For anxieties and stresses. God give wisdom, presence, strength and courage.
As the sun rises, bless us with light to see and warmth to love. May we live in harmony with each other and with creation this day. Help us be attentive to glimpses of your glory in the ordinary activities of our day. In the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Thank you God for sending rain for the thirsty ground. There’s a fragrant earthy incense that rises to praise you. Bless us too today with your living water and may our lives be fruitful and fragrant. To the praise of your glory. Amen.
Be present, Lord, in the homes of all and fill them with laughter, love, peace and pleasure. May they be places of harmony, happiness, warmth and welcome, bringing contentment, security and lasting memories. Protect, nurture, guide and provide, so that each may not just be a house but, above all, a home – touched by your presence and sanctified by your grace. Amen
Let us pray today for God’s intervention to help us build just and inclusive communities.
Compassionate God, as you know each star you have created, so you know the secrets of every heart; in your loving mercy bring to your table all who are fearful and broken, all who are wounded and needy, that our hungers may be satisfied in the city of your peace; through Christ who is our peace
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty Early in the morning Our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty God in three persons Blessed Trinity!
Lord Jesus Christ, you call us to love one another; forgive the ways the Christians across the centuries have done the opposite, hating those who think differently than they do, persecuting those who interpretation of the Bible clashes with their own. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Loving God, teach us that this is not our world but yours, and therefore that caring for it is not an optional extra but integral to our faith, part of our responsibility towards you. Help all people everywhere to discharge that calling faithfully. Amen
Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may. Herein all the children of God may unite, notwithstanding these smaller differences. John Wesley
Lord God our Father, we thank you for the family to which you have called us, for our fellowship in these strange times, the denomination of which we are part, and the great company of the church, past, present and future. For all your people, hear our prayer.
Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the life. When it comes to change, conversion even, may we be willing to open up every area of our lives to your grace and purifying power. May we risk being transformed – especially where we struggle to admit we have been wrong. May our actions for justice spring from a heart filled by your liberating love and never be just a veneer. May changes for good be ‘for good’ and not temporary window dressing. Help us Jesus, Lord of life. Amen.
Loving God, we pray for farmers and all who work the land. Give vigour to their crops and contentment to their animals, conditions and promote strong and healthy growth. Give skill and sensitivity in husbandry, the quest for productivity balanced by respect for your creation. Give guidance in managing natural resources, the ability to steward them wisely for the good of all. Provide, protect, equip, and encourage, bringing joy in times of fruitfulness and support when days are hard. Amen
Thank you God for all you have done for me in the past year….. thank you for the days and nights, in which you have spoken to me, blessed me, provided for me, protected me, comforted me, healed me and given me strength to get through.. Thank you God for reminding me to trust in you with my life. Amen
Dear God: we need you more than ever. Please bring peace to our confusion, joy to our sadness and hope to our hearts.
Father God, hear our prayer for new babies. Provide and protect, grant them health, wisdom, peace and joy. Guide their footsteps, and equip them for their journey through life, wherever it may lead. Amen
Hear our prayer for others in the trials they face – fellow sisters and brothers; grant your grace. Heal the crushed and broken, body mind and soul – let your word be spoken, touch and make them whole.
Lord Jesus Christ, we pray for our world and all its contrasts, and for the situations people face in all their complexity. Teach us that everyone, everywhere, matters to us because they matter to you, and also help us to respond wherever we are able, in the name of Christ. Come among us and establish your kingdom. Amen.
Grant your blessing, Lord, on all who serve as GP’s in our communities. In their work of examining and diagnosis, give them wisdom. In their task of prescribing and treating, give them skill. In their ministry of listening and counselling, give them insight. In everything they do, work through them, to help and heal, relieve and reassure, safeguard and support, bringing them motivation, joy and fulfilment in their calling, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
O Lord, our living God, we praise and bless your holy name. Arisen, commanded and commissioned we live for you. Thank you for redeeming us from a sleep that would have ended in destruction and for offering so much more than we could ever ask for or imagine in our Saviour, Jesus. Breathe your Spirit’s life, love and power into us afresh that we may worthily magnify your holy name, act justly, love boundlessly and humbly walk in step with you. Amen.
Stephen Lindridge, Newcastle Upon Tyne District Chair
Loving God, we come together on this Father’s Day, reminded not just of our earthly fathers but of you. You tell us that all who believe in you shall be called your children, and you invite us to address you quite simply as “Our Father”. For the wonder of you love, we praise you. You know the joy of Fatherhood and also the pain, for you witnessed the life and death of your Son, and you see each day the triumphs and tragedies of us, your children. Lord God our Father, reach out in love.
Lord our God, may each of us in our calling be faithful in our discipleship and loving in our encounters with your children. Help us to talk of you passionately and meaningfully and awaken us to every opportunity to share your good news. We ask for your blessing as we work to bring about your kingdom. Amen.
Loraine Mellor, Nottingham and Derby District Chair
Lord our God, dwelling in unapproachable light, source of all wisdom, goodness and truth; out of the abundance of our reason we adore you and out of the love of our hearts we praise you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
Susanna Wesley (1669-1742)
Everlasting God, who calls us to be the Body of Christ, we pray for those who hear and respond to your gospel:
with their minds, that they grow in understanding; with their hearts, that they remain strong in you; with their lips that they sing and speak your love and praise; with their hands, that they serve faithfully; with their feet, that they continue to journey with you.
May all our being be totally committed to you and all that you offer through the life, death and resurrection of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen
Graham Thompson, Plymouth and Exeter District Chair
Gracious God, in a world where corruption, deceit, suspicion and ‘fake news’ regularly fill the headlines, we are full of gratitude for the gospel of Christ, which brings light, hope, truth and ‘good news’ into our lives.
May the confidence that we have new life in Christ make a difference to how we respond to the people and circumstances we encounter, so that our words and actions become ‘good news’ for others. In the name of Christ, Amen.
Gill Newton, Sheffield District Chair
God who reaches out to us in love, cascading grace to all creation, may we be disciples who respond to your overwhelming, unconditional, unbounded presence. May we each respond to your invitation to share in your mission with all our heart, will, mind and strength. May we respond to your Spirit who calls us to reimagine our communities in the light of your grace. And may the gospel enliven our spirits to see possibilities, to grasp opportunities and to travel in the way of Jesus.
Andrew Wood, Southampton District Chair
Compassionate God, hear our prayer for hospitals. Equip, encourage
and enable those who work within them – from consultants,
clinicians, nurses and chaplains to cleaners, caterers, porters, support
staff, and all those on the front line – that all may contribute in
bringing healing and wholeness in body, mind and spirit. Reach out
and hold. Reach out to heal. Amen
Gracious and all-forgiving God, help us to acknowledge our faults, confess our sins, to recognise our many weaknesses, to see all that is wrong in our lives, and to be a people who do justice to your mercy. Enable us to serve you more faithfully, love you more deeply, know you more fully, obey you completely, and live in a way that does justice to your renewing power. Hear our prayer, Amen
Almighty and everlasting God, we are here to worship you. Meet us afresh this day. We come to reflect on your greatness, your otherness your righteousness, and your holiness. Meet us afresh this day. We come to praise you for your faithfulness, your goodness, your kindness and your forgiveness. Meet us afresh this day. Amen
