5th November

Each day and each night, each shade and each light, we bend our knee in the eye of the Father who has created us, in the eye of the Son who has redeemed us, in the eye of the Spirit who has cleansed us; in love and affection, in wisdom and grace, in faith and in fear, for ever and ever. Amen.

7th November

Lord of all, there is so much that gives us pleasure, that offers fulfilment, that captures our imagination, that challenges and inspires, that gives us cause to look forward with anticipation, that speaks to us of your great love. Loving Lord, hear our prayer.

8th November

Lord, your presence lifts us, your grace amazes us, your power overwhelms us, and your love excites . No matter what we bring with us – hurts, sorrows, self-satisfaction, bitterness, or joyful praise – you will always receive us as we are, and transform what we bring  and fill us with gifts of your mercy. Amen

9th November

Lord, we come for guidance for our journey, your word for our minds and the power of the Spirit to give us life. We have come to you, Lord, because you are the way, the truth, and the life. Amen

10th November

Almighty God,
Forgive us that so often and so easily we do forget.
We fail to remember your sovereign transforming power,
to remember you in the good times as well as the bad,
to see you in the fellowship of your church,
to count our many blessings,
to recognise your hand at work in every moment of our lives.
Remind us of all we owe,
Lest we forget.
We ask in the name of Christ.
Amen

11th November

Living God,
We are here to remember –
to remember again the awful cost of war,
to remember the millions who gave their lives for the cause of freedom,
to remember the courage and heroism,
fear and pain, tragedy and grief of so many.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them.
We are here to remember all of this, and much more besides –
those who still morn the loved ones they lost,
those whose lives even now are blighted by war,
those scarred in body, mind, or spirit,
those for whom warfare has meant life can never be the same again.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them.
And we remember those who strive to establish and maintain peace –
governments and world leaders,
United Nations’ forces and diplomats,
pressure groups and ordinary people;
all who in different ways strive
to promote harmony between nations,
giving victims of war the opportunity
to live normal live a normal life once more.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them.
We remember today the cost of war, and the price of peace.
Help us to go on remembering, tomorrow and every day,
and do all in our power to work for your kingdom,
here on earth.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them,
in the name of Christ.
Amen

12th November

Almighty God, we come before you to worship you. We come with all your people in heaven and on earth, to lift our hearts and voices, and give the praise and honour due to you, our God and King. We know that our hearts can never fully express your greatness, that our minds can only begin to recognise something of your wonder, but we bring what we are, offering all to you as a sign of our love, and a simple expression of our praise. Amen

13th November

Almighty God, we praise you again for our world – all the beauty of your creation. We praise you for the life you have given us – so full of blessings. We praise you for all you have done in Christ – for the richness of life you offer through him. We praise you for your love upon which we can depend – for your love is always with us. Amen

14th November

Almighty God, accept our worship. Touch our hearts with the nearness of your presence, deepen our faith, strengthen our commitment, and broaden our vision, so that we may grow as your people, and play our part in working in your kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

15th November

Creator God, in our island home you have given us an abundance of beauty. The sea that surrounds us, the hills and the glens, all of this is your gift to us. Help us to be good stewards of all that you have provided. May we be a gift to the communities in which you have placed us as we witness to the truth that every place and every time is yours. In an age of change, help us to see what we can do to make a difference in your world. In a world where people are fearful, help us to spread your message of hope and never forget that the earth is yours. Amen.

Loving God, you ask us whatever we do, we do it for your sake – to offer our whole lives, our every thought, word and action, to your service, for your glory. Help us to understand what that really means – to see every part of each day as an opportunity to work for you, and to approach our work and our leisure in such a way as to bear witness to you. God of love, for your name’s sake, help us.

19th November

Loving God, we often here the expression, “For God’s sake!” We may even use it ourselves: “For God’s sake do this!” “For God’s sake do that!” “For God’s sake stop!” “For God’s sake listen!” yet what we really mean, if we are honest, is for our own sakes, not yours. God of love, for your name’s sake, help us.

20th November

Loving God, save us from simply serving our own ends, from doing merely what we enjoy doing and leaving the rest to others. Save us from acting out of necessity or routine, but teach us instead to respond from the heart, dedicating all of our life to you, remembering that Jesus died for the sake of the world. God of love, for your name’s sake, help us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For your coming and coming again in Christ, we thank you. Amen
