Find here a prayer for every day in October
1st October
Father God, thank you for the gift of a new month, filled with fresh opportunities and countless moments to see how you work in my life! I give this month over to you and ask you to help me trust you more and more and honour you in everything I do, in Jesus’ name. Amen
2nd October
Lord of heaven and earth, you’ve honoured us, each and every one, placing in our care not just land or money but the world itself, an asset beyond price. Forgive humankind’s squandering of its resources, living today with no thought of tomorrow. Forgive our betrayal of your trust, giving little thought for present and future generations. Teach all to live wisely, mindful of your creation, and, above all, mindful of you. Amen
3rd October
Creator God, we pray for all those to whom we owe our harvest, all those whose labour and dedication enables us to enjoy the bounty of this world’s resources. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer.
4th October
Father God, creator of all that is, and has been, and shall be, we thank you for this glad season and this special day. We thank you for our world with all its rich and wonderful variety, for you gift of life constantly being renewed by your loving hand. We thank you for those whom we owe this harvest – workers on farms and in agriculture, sailors and fishermen, miners and engineers, scientists and technicians, employees in shops and factories. You have blessed us so much. Amen
5th October
Creator God, we pray for farmers in other countries – denied the resources they need to cultivate their land, overwhelmed by drought, flood or other catastrophe. Gracious Lord, hear our prayer.
6th October
Lord of all, as we thank you for our harvest we remember those who do not celebrate – those whose harvest is poor or non-existent, those with insufficient resources to tend their land, those denied a just reward for their labours, those whose harvest has been destroyed. Lord you have blessed us richly: teach us to remember others.
7th October
Lord of all, speak to us at this harvest time, so that our hearts may be stirred and our consciences quickened. Teach us to share our bounty with those who have nothing, so that the time may one day come that we all have enough and none too much Lord you have blessed us richly: teach us to remember others.
8th October
Creator God, hear our prayer for all those who harvest the innumerable and diverse riches of your creation. Equip, inspire and guide them in their work, so that they may steward your gifts wisely to the good of all. Lord you have blessed us richly: teach us to remember others. Amen
9th October
Gracious God, we thank you that you have value for each of us, that we are all important in your eyes. We thank you that everyone matters to you, none more than other and none less. Lord of all, Hear our prayer
10th October
Jesus Christ, throughout your ministry you reached out to those who were seen as beyond help. Even when it involved risk and rejection, you put love first, consistently showing compassion and acceptance, come what may. Forgive our lack of love. Help us, as you did, to see beyond the surface of individuals. Help us to love others. Amen
11th October
Gracious God, bless those who have become engaged to one another, publicly witnessing to the love the feel, joy they have found, commitment they have made, and hopes, plans and dreams they share. May their love continue to flourish, their joy to be deepened and enriched, their commitment hold firm in the changing fortunes of life and their dreams be realised, through Jesus Christ or Lord. Amen
12th October
Almighty God, thank you for medical breakthroughs, labour-saving devices, technological gadgets, mind-boggling discoveries – so much that broadens our minds and enhances our lives. Grant wisdom. Grant understanding
13th October
Living God, we pray for all those who find faith difficult or impossible – those beset by doubt, troubled by questions to which they can find no answer, unable to take a leap of faith, yet seeking, searching, and thirsting for truth. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
14th October
Living God, we think of those unable to reconcile their own situations with the claims of the gospel – those whose dreams have been shattered, their love betrayed, their trust abused, and their best efforts gone unrewarded. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
15th October
Living God, we think of those for whom events in the world at large seem to deny your love – those confronted by natural disaster, sickened by war and violence, bemused by sickness, suffering and disease, perplexed by the apparent victory in so many places of evil over good. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
16th October
Living God, break through the barriers of doubt and unbelief. Open the hearts and minds of all who are troubled and confused, and all who are closed to your presence. Meet with those who find it hard to meet with you, and lead them to a living, life-giving faith. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen
17th October
Almighty and most wonderful God, unsearchable and inexhaustible, greater than we can ever imagine, higher than our highest thoughts, enthroned in glory and splendour, we come to give you our worship, offer you our praise, and make our confession, recognising that your ways are not our ways, and your thoughts are not our thoughts. Lord have mercy upon us.
18th October
Almighty and most wonderful God, forgive our misplaced pride and arrogance – we have been full of our own importance, preferring our ways to yours, imagining we know all there is to know about you, trusting in our own wisdom instead of your guidance, setting ourselves up in your place. But your ways are not our ways and your thoughts are not our thoughts. Lord have mercy upon us.
19th October
Almighty and most wonderful God, forgive our narrow vision and closed minds – we have tied you down to our own understanding, closing our hearts to anything which challenges our restricted horizons, losing sight of your greatness, failing to listen to your voice or the voice of others, refusing to accept that others besides ourselves have insights to share. But your ways are not our ways and your thoughts are not our thoughts. Lord have mercy upon us.
20th October
Almighty and most wonderful God, remind us that you have more to say, more to reveal, and more to do. Open our eyes, our minds, and our hearts to who and what you are. And so fill us with awe and wonder, joy and thanksgiving, praise and worship now and forevermore. Amen
21st October
Living God, we praise you for the way we experience your presence as we come to worship, the way this time enables us to focus our thoughts upon you. Ever-present God, help us find you here
22nd October
Living God, may the affairs of daily life be illuminated and enriched by our being here. And so as we turn to our daily routine may we know you are there as much as anywhere, waiting to meet us in those around us, unfolding your purpose in the events of life, demonstrating your handiwork in the wonder of creation. Ever-present God, help us to find you always, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
23rd October

26th October
Loving God, give us the peace Jesus promised to all who follow him, the knowledge that we need neither be troubled or afraid, for you are with us, watching over us now and always. God of love, for the knowledge that you are always with us, we praise you, in the name of Christ. Amen
27th October
Loving God, we bring before you the sick and suffering of our world, our country, and those known to us. All those wrestling with illness in body, mind or spirit, those enduring physical pain, overwhelmed by disabling disease, waiting for operations, further treatment and fearful of what the future might hold, or living with the knowledge of a terminal illness. In the name of Christ, Amen
28th October
Everlasting God, you know what we are, and you know what we want to be. Hear our prayer, receive our worship, and so help us to become the people you would have us be, to the glory of your name. Amen
29th October
Eternal God, your steadfast love is as high as the heavens are above the earth and your everlasting arms are underneath us. In Jesus you made your home among us, and you long for us to find our home in you – safe and free from fear. Alpha and Omega, beginning and end, the one holding all things together, give us liberating confidence to renew our trust in you, seek your will, and choose your paths. Amen.

30th October
Loving God, we thank you for the things in life that make us laugh, the things that bring smiles to our faces. We thank you for a sense of humour helping to see the funny side of life, enabling us to share a joke, even when it’s on ourselves. We thank you for those with the special gift of bringing laughter to others, bringing a little light relief into the seriousness of our world. Teach us to appreciate the gift of laughter and share it with those around us, in the name of Christ. Amen
